Treating the Under Eye Area
The under-eye area is delicate. The skin is 25% as thick as that of other areas. This means that it requires specialist products and techniques to effectively treat it.
There is no one treatment for all concerns, unfortunately. If a practitioner claims that there is… that’s a red flag. Each treatment has its ‘party piece ’ and will also mildly help with some other concerns as well.
Treating Dark Circles can be complicated. The method varies depending on the type of pigmentation that makes your under-eye area dark. It can be true pigmentation (a brownish hue), vascular pigmentation (purple), or shadow pigmentation (how light reflects off your natural contour). Each method requires different in-clinic and at-home skincare. However, under-eye pigmentation is stubborn and will always need multiple sessions and long-term skincare.
The best in-clinic treatments for dark under-eye circles:
-Sunekos- best for vascular & true (a course of three is recommended)
-PRP - best for shadow & vascular (3-6 depending on severity)
-Hi, nmn boosters- best for vascular & and aids plumpness (2-3 with NADs recommended)
* Please note tear trough filler is not listed because it DOES NOT TREAT DARK CIRCLES. It is ONLY for hollow, indented tear troughs. Even when it could be used for hollow troughs, only 25% of clients are eligible; those who aren’t will have adverse effects. Please do not let any practitioner tell you tear trough filler will help brighten. I see this too much. It doesn’t, and if you were not the correct candidate, you will need it to be dissolved
I personally struggled with under-eye dark circles from vascular and shadow contour. See my personal story below, which I share to help others with drastic pigmentation issues.
Treating Dark Circles:
Crepey, aging under-eye skin
Thinning and ageing skin under the eyes is one of the main complaints we tend to hear about in the clinic. We have to be careful when treating such delicate skin, while keeping in mind that it needs refreshing.
Truly hollow under-eyes are rare. However, there are a few things you can do to help plump them long-term.
Depending on the cause of the thinning. Whether this is purely down to ageing, sun exposure, or weight loss may change the type of treatment necessary. For ageing and thinning skin, a comprehensive plan is always best. We sit down and lay out a monthly or six-week plan that works with your skin and your budget to accomplish your skin goals.
My top treatments for this are:
-Polynucleotides ( a course of 3 is recommended)
-PRP (3-6 recommended), when used as a microneedling and mesotherapy combo
-Exosome microneedling (3-6 recommended). This will be done on the full face and has amazing benefits for the whole skin.
Treating Hollow under eyes:
-PRF- a more plumping specialist form of PRP (2-4 sessions depending on severity)
-Tear Trough filler (1 session)
Treating the under-eye area is highly specialised and requires specialist products and techniques. It’s always important to have a consultation and ensure the treatment is right for you and that you are a candidate.
